In this visual world your headshot says important things about you. *
Does it tell the world you're professional?
That you care about quality?
That you're polished, confident, approachable, engaging?
If not, let's fix that.

*Researchers at Princeton University found it takes someone 1/10th of a second to form an impression of a stranger's trustworthiness and competence simply from a photo of their face.

HEADSHOTS DON'T HAVE TO BE STRESSFUL.
You can have fun. look great. be happy.
How many times have you taken a headshot and settled for "good enough".
We've all been to the headshot studio where the headshot photographer plops you down, adjusts the lights, and leaves it up to you to conjure up an authentic smile. You call it a success if you don't hate the portrait.
Well, that doesn't cut it here.
I believe everyone can and should have a photo of themselves that they love.
A photo that catches their spirit and minimizes the things they don't love so much. One they can share without apology.

HEADSHOTS TIPS & STYLE GUIDE
What you should wear & why.
SOME GENERAL ADVICE
Confidence is key. Treat your headshot session like you would an important business deal or a job interview or a first meeting with a potential client. Do you have an outfit that always gets you compliments? One that makes you feel like you can take on the world? Chances are good that you should be wearing that for your headshot.
There are no hard rules here. Conventional advice says stick to solid colors and avoid busy prints and patterns because they take attention away from your face. Same thing for big jewelry and crazy ties. But I say if that's your thing, go for it. You'll feel more like yourself and the confidence will show through in the photo. We will get some shots that show your flair, but we will also get some that bring the focus to your eyes, which is where the confidence really shows through. Some people (me) live their life in denim. Some women feel best in a simple jacket and pearl earrings, while others prefer bright colors and bold fashion jewelry. Same for guys. Your thing might be a navy blazer and open color or a custom tailored suit and statement tie. It doesn't matter. And you will look great in the end.

COLOR
There are some good general rules about color, and finding a color that complements your skin tone can make a huge difference.
Are you blue-eyed and fair skinned? Try blues, pinks and grays.
Green eyes? Try greens, browns, and oranges.
Brown eyes or medium to dark skin? You're lucky. You can probably wear most colors, just avoid wearing colors that match your skin tone too closely.
White can be problematic for many reasons, so usually I say to avoid it.

CLOTHING
Generally, fine textures and weaves photograph very well.
Avoid anything baggy. Pretty much nobody wants the extra pounds they will give you. But layers are always good.
On women I like stretchy tops as long as bra lines don't show. I also like fine knit sweaters, velvet (yum!), and scoop necks or v-necks. If you wear a collared shirt, be sure it is freshly pressed. If you're going for a more casual look, try a denim or leather jacket over a t-shirt, tank tops, and textured sweaters.
On men I like well-pressed dress shirts, suits, and jackets with an open collar. And for something more casual, consider polo shirts, work shirts, and even t-shirts and hoodies.
And it goes without saying, but clothes should be freshly cleaned and pressed. And if you have pets, give everything a good going over with a lint brush. Your photographer hates photoshopping pet fur off your lapel.
