CONFESSION: I DROPPED MY VERY FIRST PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS.
It was just too much pressure back in my college days.
I had been inspired by a photo I saw on a girlfriend's desk. It was her portrait, taken by her father, a regular old guy who might have gotten lucky or might have known exactly what he was doing. I will never know. But the photo grabbed me. Her face was relaxed and happy, the lighting in her eyes was piercing, and the background was soft and warm. I asked my parents for an SLR camera that Christmas and signed up for an introduction to photography class. What I quickly learned was that luck doesn't show up very often, and I was thrown off track by youth and impatience and an unreasonable expectation of instant success.
Fortunately for me, I never let go of my dream and I picked up that same camera several years later when my daughter was born. I taught myself through books and classes and lots of failure. I studied light and angles and color, and I had three precious daughters to practice on. Today I have priceless photos of their early days, photos that capture their spirit and give me great joy. That's what I want for you and your loved ones.
I started Amy Martin Portrait almost twenty years ago, mostly as a way to pay for all the expensive equipment I had my eye on. The business grew as my children grew and eventually turned into a thriving senior portrait studio. This next adventure, [LIT], is the logical progression of my work, where I can help people further their careers with polished and captivating portraits for personal and professional use.
I still photograph a limited number of high school seniors each year, and you can find information about those sessions at on the Seniors page.
I hope you'll give me a call.
